Re: Isabelle

Not really lookin forward to this one.

Right now its a catagory 5 hurricane, but they are predicting it to be a catagory 3 hurricane by the time it makes landfall.

As far as I'm concerned, any storm that has to listed with a catagory, is a storm that no one needs to endure.

Lets hope it dies out like Gloria did back in '86.

Kenny

Re: Isabelle

I've been tracking this storm for 2 weeks now, she's a monster. New York, Pa, even Canada will definetly get residual effects from this storm even though it is predicted to make landfall in NC. Hopefully the cooler water temperatures will take it down to less than a Cat-3. Either way, she's one to be reckoned with.

Her forward speed dropped, central pressure has risen and she has weakened from her previous state of Cat-5. At one point the sustained winds were 170 with gusts to 195.

Like Ladyfish, those of us that have lived in coastal Texas towns become Tropical storm/Hurricane experts. This one also caught my eye right away. Glad to hear it's expected to wind down some prior to landfall. This one is being steered between two high pressure regions, so I bet the landfall prediction is pretty good unless it stalls out( I just think I'm and expert, don't bet your house on it)This is a good link for advisories and satellite video and images.
http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

Re: Isabelle

I was sweating that one out for a few days.. Had my get away all planned out...

Actually, In a sick way, I was almost hopeing for Isabelle to come thru here as a cat. 5 for a good "house cleaning"... There would be nothing left, and as a bonus, It'd turn the "upscale western comunities" back into the swamp that it really is... oh well...

Re: Isabelle

Man, I am sweating it out. I am right in the middle of the track and it should be hitting here in central PA Friday and Saturday. Tomorrow and Wednesday I should be digging my foundation and Tuesday we are pouring the footers and basement walls. Hope the hole doesn't collapse on me or that I get an unexpected swimming pool!

Currently am by a stream. We have our plan to get the mowers, etc, out of harms way. And the 18 ft john boat with the 115 jet outboard is ready to launch in the driveway. Last big flood we were running through the trails in the woods and over the garden and around the playground equipment :D . Might as well make the best of a bad situation, right?!?!

I went through Gloria back in the eighties. That was a pretty small hurricane, yet did quite a bit of damage. I was without electricity for two weeks.

Hope all you east coasters get through this one OK
