Issac rained in my exhaust manifolds

Hey guys,

The crazy storm we had flooded the area. I was putting the engine back in the boat and covered the engine the best I could. Well, after it stopped raining, the sun came out and I took a look at the mess. I noticed water in the center manifold (port) on each side (I had the risers off).

I sucked the water out of the port with my topside oil changer, and now everything is baking out in the hot sun. Whats the best way to minimize any damage? The engine hasnt been started, so I don't know if water made it past the valves...but I would imagine things will dry out quickly. Do I need to pull the plugs and crank?

Thanks,
Joe

Pull the spark plugs, crank the engine over to make sure the cylinders are dry. If water was in the cylinders, put some oil in the cylinders and get it started and running ASAP.

YES!!!
If the valves were lashed, then some of them were open allowing water in the cylinders. Pull your plugs, crank the engine over to clear the cylinder. Spray copious amounts of WD-40 in the cylinders, and repeat.

Pulled the plugs.. Water came shooting out one of the cylinders on the port side. I cranked for 15 second intervals. I sprayed WD40 (all I had with me) in all the cylinders and kept cranking. Nothing is squirting out now. Should I reinstall and try to get it running? Or should I add the oil to the cylinders and change oil first?

Thanks again,

Joe

WD-40 is the right product to use. It would best if you could get it running ASAP

If you sprayed WD-40 in, and going to start soon (Today), you should be fine. If longer add the oil.

Well... Got it started. Took some cranking. It fired up.. then I added water and had some spraying out of the riser joint :(. Had to clean the cylinder out again. Smelled a bunch of fuel..flooded engine for sure (should of used starting fluid) Starts and runs fine without the water (only let it run for 5 seconds).. Need to align this thing, which I think explains the offset on the riser..doesnt line up exactly.

The reason for the headaches : Out of alignment engine, due to the tab washers not being locked down (previous owner.. I never checked it).. the bottom nut spun down. Coupler went after 1 year of ownership. Middle of August, South Florida, heat index of 100 + daily.. Hurricane Issac... Been a rough month. Not sure how much I save by doing it myself..but I hope it was worth it!
