I fired up my 1980 omc 140 the weekend before easter then I took it to the marine shop the following tuesday. Well last night it was freezing here.maybe tonight too. My question is I ran it with the muffs on till I shut it down. I did not do any further draining to make sure water was out of engine and drive. Although I raised and lowered the stern maybe twice.
How much of a risk of damage did I do? Also anything else I should do when finished running for the day? Fire it up with the muffs off?
Please tell me it should be okay!!!

Absolutely Not.............

There is a Block Drain,+ a Manifold Drain,+ possibly a Riser Drain that Should have been Left Open..................
Please tell me it should be okay!!!
Can't do That Either..........

In My Experince,......... 28*s for 6 Hours,... Is Cold Enough, Long Enough to cause Catastrophic Failure........

Good LUCK.........

...and maybe a power steering cooler drain (if it has power steering).

Damage? Start it up and check for leaks and water in your engine oil. Maybe you were lucky.

Re: it is freezing

Talked to the guy at the shop where the boat is he said typically it needs to be at an average temp of 30 degrees for two days to really do some damage. He said considering it has been getting up to the mid 50's during the day it should be okay.
