Well, on the last pass I cleaned the carb again (did not need it) and pulled the stator cover, cleaned and sanded all connections, and pulled the original condenser and installed a condenser from a early 70's Honda CB750, which by way fits pretty good. Cranked on the second pull and ran great , put an hour and a half run time on it was near perfect. Wow. Must have been the condensor or cruddy electrical connections.
The poster who said it would not cool correctly in a barrel was right on; when I put it on the bass buggy and hit the lake, mist appeared at the exhaust ports and it ran at all power levels with no issues, and would idle down really low.
Thanks for all the help, I think its ready to go on the river trip.
