94 Bayliner 2052LS w/4.3L V6 Merc Alpha One.. While plowing along above idle, I shifted to reverse quickly to stop the boat(because of skier). It rattled and ran rough for 2-3 seconds and stopped cold!! I decided to give it one more quick crank, it rolled over a little and siezed. Paddled home, pulled outdrive, appears fine at first look. Engine is still bound tight. I have good shop manual, have been checking out this amazing web site so I feel maybe there is a chance by Spring to be back on the water. Oh ya, when pulling outdrive I found a metallic/plastic solid U-shaped gasket piece or flapper? wedged sideways in the flexible hosing for exhaust. Also, what is hydroloc?
Thankyou, Chieftan

Pull all the spark plugs and see if the engine will turn over. If you see water on spark plug or out of the cylinders. You need to get the water out or you will lose the engine.

Probably an exhaust flapper you found, these prevent water in trusion from the following sea. My shade tree mechanic guess would be hydrolock due to the lack of exhaust flapper. Hydrolock is when water enters the combustion chamber, water will not compress when the piston tries to travel up the cylinder bore.

DougV>
