looking outside the weather is great here in North East Texas. Would love to take the boat out but we have been having some probs with it. the old 1976 115 hp merc. has been bogging down when given any throttle, and idleing very low and evetually dies when not given any throttle. Pumping the bulb help so dows runnign it in gear at a low throttle for a few minutes, it works better with only one person on the boat this seem to start after I changed plugs, and tinkered with the throttle stop and idle stop screws. there seemd to be gas comming out of the middle carb, what should I do to get the fuel flowing properly with out pullin gthe carbs. would seafoam help, maybe I should adjust the throttle stop and Idle stop screws better.. So how do the screws work, what is the factory defualt setting on them..

Thanks for you time and help
Thomas itchin for fishin

Boaterintexas, get yourself a manual at your local marine store......Those adjustments that you are making are effecting the carbs and timing. The two must be synchronized together with a timing light.....You have got the timing out now....Get a manual a timing light and reset to factory specs. In most cases your idle speed is adjusted with timing, not carbs. The same is said for max advance.

boaterntexas

Idle stop screw is adjusted until the butterflys are closed. The stop makes sure the butterflys do not jam closed.

The Spark advance should be adjusted to 21 degrees advance MAX. Actually 19 to 20 is much safer for your motor.

Throttle stop is adjusted so the butterflys are full open when the control handle is at WOT. Once again the screw is set to make sure the butterflys do not jam.

The idle mixture screws on each carb should be 2-1/2 to 3 turns open from lightly seated. Set all three carbs the same. The stumble you mentioned in a previous post is very likely because the idle mixture screws are set to lean. Set all three at 2-1/2 turns, then test drive. If the engine still bogs, set all three at 2-3/4 turns. If it still boggs set all three at 3 turns.

You should get a factory service manual - that shows these settings in detail.

Good Luck,

Gold Bear ;)

I reviewed your history. MY may have nailed this on one if the first posts, that the bog could be a stuck float valve as now evidenced by fuel out the carb. Recommend: get a svc manual so you can sync the throttle and timing properly. Probably dont even need a timing light but for fine tune. Go through the carbs. That motor is not going to run right till you put in some carb kits and clean it out. Its easy, cheap, and you'll be glad you did. Good luck.
