Well summers winding down to a close and people who had hopes and dreams of getting their boat running this year are fading. So they put their boat up forale on Craigslist, and thats where I come in.

I just picked up this 1996 Bayliner Capri with a 3.0 engine (that runs) and a good outdrive for 300 bucks. Not to mention a nice galvanized trailer.

The interior is shot. I put my foot right through the floor. I am going to keep the good parts and scrap the hull. Its a shame because it was a nice boat.

This is a prime example why Bayliners have such a bad rap. People I bought it from were the original owners and ran it till it had a couple of hickups (bog at WOT) and just parked it outside with no cover...

The owner showed me his cards as soon as he said "I need to have this out of here in two days because the city is going to fine for parking it on the street" I had cash in my pocket and a hitch on my truck...

there are lots of deals like this around here. For those from other parts of the country, just for fun, run through the Norfolk VA Craigs List. I'm sure other boating cities (Houston, Charleston, Birmingham, Savannah, Florida anywhere) have similar deals on the low end.
The 25' cabins are the main culprits-- a dime a dozen.

Why are you bashing Bayliner...it is quite clear it is the previous owners fault...

That's what he said. People buy the cheaper Bays as a beginner boat and then do something stupid, and others then say, "See, Bayliners fall apart after a few years."

He's so proud of putting a Bayliner in the landfill that he posted it in two sections of this forum.
Could of been a good resto project.

If you have been following his posts, you would have seen to where the boat has title issues and probably could not be restored in a cost worthy manner. I see this all the time in FL, boats for sale or free all the time here with title issues and it is next to impossible to get a title on one here that doesnt already have a clear one on it. Also, you have to look at if it is worth refurbishing, by the time he would have put in to strip the hull, re wood and glass everything back in and re-upholser it, he could have easily went out and bought a bigger newer sea ray and had enough money left in his pocket to fill up the tank and cooler and maybe take his wife out to dinner. Sometimes they just arent worth rebuilding.

Never once would I bash a Bayliner. I started out with Bayliners and I love em...

Im just saying this boat is a prime example of why Bayliners have such a bad rap. First time boat owners buy them and dont have the common sense to take care of them. They just think because its a boat that its supposed to be water proof. This boat could have been saved with a 25 dollar tarp from harbor freight. It was winterized though, engine was still full of antifreeze.

I had to throw the hull away because it could not have been titled again. When I went to look at it, I was told there was a lien on the title. I asked if the boat was considered stolen or up for repossession. I was then showed a letter from Navy Federal Credit Union that they did not want the boat back in its current condition and they offered to settle the payoff for 5000 dollars. This boat was not worth 5 grand nor did he have the money. So they in turn are just going to ruin his credit.

I know it was a nice hull and many people would have killed to start a project on a newer boat but, if there is no title you're just throwing your money away...

I took all the valuable parts off and threw the hull away. But I wished I would have saved the windshield just so I can stop getting bitched at about destroying it...:D:D:D

I will never throw a windshield away again. I promise...

How could anyone just neglect something they own like that? Especially when they still owe thousands on it! Some people...

I don't know guys, I think the design of this "gauge cluster" deserves a little Bayliner-bashing :p

That's got to be the ugliest thing I'd even seen on a boat.

My neck of the woods, they would ask $4,500 for that boat.
And list it every few hours on CL for the next 6 months.

You are right. Were I live, someone would have actually given $3,000 plus for that boat...even without title.

1980's Sea Ray BRs that haven't been restored are going for $4K here.
