Hi! New member here! I am familiar with the Master, Mister Joe Reeves, from another board.

New problem: actually 1st problem with this motor.
91 J150, about 130 hours on rebuild in 2007, running great. Always run at around 36-3800 rpm max, except once a trip I run at WOT to verify hits range, typically 48-5000.

Last 2 trips, ran up to around 4800, then cut down to around 4200, and stays around there, but not smooth. Backing down runs fine around 3600, as stated above. Got fresh gas between the two trips. couldn't pump the bulb and drive at the same time, but the bulb (2 seasons old) seemed soft but not sucked in/ collapsed. Checked all hose connections.

When run in driveway, starts to run rough, ball seems soft, pumping smooths it out for a bit, but running for a while with gas cap off doesn't seem to help.
How can I check fuel pump output, and what else can I do to verify this is or not a fuel Delivery problem before going to carbs or ignition?

I had a wot cut-out, bog, jump all around the rpm range problem with the '85 j150 i had before the '91, (power packs solved it) and it was much jerkier and erratic than this.

I had a similar experience and my fuel lines were deteriorating and clogging the carbs. I would replace all fuel lines and clean the carbs and make sure your timing is set correctly.
