J35 1983 Water In Top Cylinder

the engine is running badly and wont rev up carb cleaned new leads and plugs fitted.
my top plug is very clean,so i then put a dirty plug into top cyl and after 5 min @ tick over speed it was clean.this according to the manual is water ingress , any ideas in where it may be getting in ?
compression is 148psi so i dont think its cyl head gasket

WAter entering the cylinder could throw you off somewhat in your thinking, pertaining to compression, as the water could be setting up a hydraulic type scenario leading to added compression.

I'd recommend removing the cylinder head to inspect the gasket, sealing surfaces, etc. Also, failure of the exhaust baffle plate gasket(s) and/or sealing surfaces could allow water to enter either cylinder.
