2000 5hp Johnson. Tell-tale only squirt when revved up a bit. Changed impeller and same thing (old one wasn't too bad..) This motor has a flush plug under powerhead. If I take that plug off, and run it, water gushes out nicely. If I plug it w/my finger, it gets a bit pressurized, and if I rev the motor, cooling water (hot) comes out the telltale. Telltale tube/grommet isn't obstructed.
Question: Water obviously is obstructed through powerhead, and I don't see a thermostat.. where to look? Also, it seems to have a hard-tube connection from waterpump housing to powerhead, so I don't think it's a bent rubber grommet..
Thanks.

Thanks!

I'll look at the upper grommet.

I am pretty sure that if you get a good water flow out of the flushing connection then the grommet at the top of the water tube will be Ok

You may find the water passages choked up a bit but is it overheating or are you just pulling it apart because there's not much water coming from the telltale at idle speed?

Provided you can keep your finger on the cylinder block for a count of three you may be trying to fix something that isn't broken.

no there is no thermostat.
