J60TTLEO OMC Controller constantly beeping

Hello, I'm quite new to the boating world and this is my first ever outboard. Having an issue with the horn/alarm in the OMC controller. Getting a constant beep from the controller when the key is turned over. Even without the motor running the beeping is happening with the key in the "accessory" position (for lack of a better term). The motor seems to be running relatively fine and after doing a little research online I'm starting to think it could be a faulty overheat, low oil, VRO sensor or a grounded wire somewhere. Not sure exactly where to look or how to test this theory. Was hoping someone might have experience with this issue. Thanks

Although it's likely you have a bad warning horn make sure you run 50:1 gas and oil premix while you troubleshoot. Double oil will not hurt a thing.

I am by no means an expert - however, I had a similar issue recently and, following the advice from other forum posts, I disconnected the tan wire from the temperature and VRO sensors one at a time in order to determine the problem. When I disconnected the wire to the VRO tank, the constant tone stopped. If I would have discovered that disconnecting the sensors did not identify the issue, then my next step was to open my control unit and disconnect the tan wire from the alarm - if that stops the alarm, you likely have a wire grounded out somewhere (pinched etc), if it doesn't stop after the tan wire is removed, then the problem is likely the alarm itself.

I found this picture on Google for reference - it identifies the VRO Tank sensor (black from tank which is connected to a tan wire to the alarm)

Good luck.

Thank you so much for all the info. Hopefully be able to have some time to troubleshoot this weekend. I’ll report back for sure. Cheers

Went out to the boat today and started it in the driveway with the muffs no beeping sound at all, only a quick beep when I put it into accessory.
