Jackplate On Aluminum Boat?

Hi all,

I am buying a G3 Eagle 175 with a 90hp 2 Stroke on it. My plan is to use it as a river boat, one that I can get in shallower water than a fiberglass boat. My question is, has anyone ever put a hydraulic jack plate on an aluminum boat? I want to know if there will be any advantage as far as being able to get around better in shallow water? Also will this hurt or help my top end speed when running, because of the added weight? Now I know the boat won't be a speed demon by any means anyhow but I'd like to get the most mph out of it I can....I've read that it helps with top end speed and that it hurts? Any advise?

Also if I do, do this, what amount of set back should I bet looking at I've noticed that it varies?

To get a jack plate that will work.......... you need to get a hydraulic or power adjustable one which run from $800 and up. You will not like a manual one if you have to adjust it on the water at all.

Kicker motors are cheaper.

If you have not purchased the boat then you might look for a tunnel hull. There are many shallow running hulls.

A good outboard with T&T can normally get you across shallow spots. Until you try it I would save the money.
