Hi, First post here, glad to be making it. Ive learned alot so far from this site, and i thank you all for the awesome info.

im looking into getting a inflatable, specifically the Saturn 470 15'. I already have a 25 hp evinrude, problem is, its 20" shaft and the boat is a 15" transom. Ive been looking around at various "transom elevators" and "jackplates" and ive decided that i like the look of the "T-H-Marine manual Mini-jacker".

Would this work with my transom? Is it safe to run like this? Should i go with the transom elevator (raises the engine the full 5" no adjustment, and i hope to god it bolts in, doesnt look like it does in the picture) or the mini jacker (adjustable, but only raises the engine max 4", 1" less than i need)?.

Leaning towards Mini-jacker for stability, cant seem to find a decent review on the transom elevators! Much rather sacrifice the engine being in 1" more water than it falling off the boat completely!

Also... do i treat the transom of the inflatable the same as any other transom? can you drill holes in it? (sealing them after with silicon of course).

Re: Jackplate on an inflatable?

Welcome to the forums,

The only way installing a long shaft engine is to place a jackplate, you can bolt to transom, drill holes and seal them with silicone or playwood can rotten with time. Can you post pictures of both ?

Re: Jackplate on an inflatable?

I can provide pictures of the engine (if needed), i dont own the boat yet, was just weighing my options. the engine is a 1977 25 hp evinrude 2 stroke. The boat im looking at is this one here (a pic i found on the net). its rated high enough for my motor, just not the long shaft, would this work with a jackplate? and it wont tear up the transom drilling custom holes? Thanks

Any inflatable with a jack plate installed and bolted correctly works well, but for your peace of mind and wallet ask dealer. Just inflate well sib tubes and keel, buy a pressure gauge if it's available along with sib.
