Jackplate Setting

I just got a hydraulic jack plate for my 71 Glastron GT-160. I have A 90hp Evinrude. My question for you guys is this, how high is too high to jack up the motor before I start losing water pressure or before the motor blows up? Should I install a water pressure guage or is there an easy way to modify the lower unit without spending tons of cash and hours of time in the shop. Thanks. Starr

A water pressure gauge is a must on any boat but essential with a jackplate.

I'm turning 5500 rpm right now without the jackplate installed with an old 19pitch prop. When I install the jackplate my rpms will likely go up right. My question is this, should I go with a 21pitch or 20pitch. What do you think would be the better investment. Or does it just depend on how fast I want to go. Thanks. Starr

Starr: re the pressure gauge. I installed one myself a couple of years ago and it was really easy. I used a Teleflex and the instructions and parts were right on. You can go on their website, and find instruction sheets for all their gauges - you would be able to get an idea if it will be doable for you. I love the gauge; no more looking back at the tell tale.

I have a hydraulic jackplate (Quicksilver Paralift - no longer made?). My gut feeling is that the only way to assess your prop is to run it with the jack plate with existing prop and see what happenes, then go from there. Have fun!

Ditto the "Have fun"!

I'm guessing youll be swinging a 20 real easy and probably looking at a 22. Now, if you could just find an old OMC 23 Silver Streak prop......

Hummm.......

Just looked in the "inventory". Ran across a 22 Raker for a V4. Imagine that....

Thanks for the info guys. Dhadley, you got a dollar figure that would get that 22raker out of your inventory and on the back of my boat?
