Jackshaft Technology

Does anyone know anything about the jackshafts, specifially the ones on the abermarle boats?<br />Can these be problemtic and costly to fix?<br />I believe they are coupled with Volvo engines and carbon fiber outdrives.<br />Michael

There are plenty of Abermarles and others running around with jackshafted outdrives so there must be something to it...<br /><br />The theory behind moving the engine to the center of the boat for good weight distribution is right on... But, to me, the jackshaft itself is kinda like an extra piece of shrapnel in a hand grenade... Add to that, an outdrive, a piece that is expensive and problamatic enuff as it is... I could'nt justify it...<br /><br />My thoughts... If you want the engine in the center of the boat, go with a straight inboard...
