Hello, new to the site and to boat ownership. I have a 97 Javelin 369 FS with a 115 Johnson and I’m having a gas tank problem I would be grateful if anyone has some guidance.

The issue I have is the previous owner cut a 4 inch hole in the top of plastic gas tank to clean out the tank after sitting for a few years and used a layer of rubber for a seal and a piece of sheet metal riveted to the tank to cover the hole. This is a poor fix and allows fumes and fuel to leak out into the hull.

I would like to replace the tank but have two problems, one how to remove the tank and secondly where do I buy a replacement tank. The current tank is 29 1/2x 19x12, I can not locate a tank with these dimensions. The hatch opening is 14 inches, does give me room to pull the tank without cutting fiberglass supports?

An alternative would be to seal the hole but I have not found a material that is rated for this size hole. If anyone has any suggestions I would be appreciative.

Thanks in advance for your reply’s.

You have the right idea of replacing the tank. Might be able to weld the tank sealed (plastic welding) but the heat needed would be dangerous.

Contact Florida Marine and Tank and they can custom make on, this is where I got mine. I won't be cheap
