JC Penny aluminum boat

I bought this 12 foot 1961 JC Penny aluminum boat and am curious about its history I'm having problems finding stuff about its history. Anyone know of anything about the JC Penny's boats

I suspect it was made by another tin boat maker FOR JC Penney not BY JC Penney

Elgin made boats for Sears as did Sea Nymph. Lots of self (or re-) branded boats were also made by Starcraft.

Western Auto had boats made by others as well.

Yep... Penny's. Sears. Wards didn't and don't make things, they have makers put the store brands on.

Many Kenmore appliances = Whirlpool
I had a Montgomery Wards motorcycle... made by Bennelli.


Foremost made some boats sold by J.C. Penny about then.

Nice looking piece of history and probably a very fun project to work on.

I remember the Ted Williams series of boats the local Sears store had. I always wanted one but I was a kid and you know the rest of that story.

What are you going to use it for? Fishing mostly?

How did you ID it as a JCP boat?

Looks like an early 60s 12ftr. I'd bet the interior ribs, bench seats and hull runners and keel that aren't an additional applied/riveted V strip along the bottom but rather actually molded into the hull, may be enough detailing to help someone who's owned the same boat, branded by the maker, ID who made it.

Good news: the fish wont care about who made it.

I mainly pan fish with it! I had no idea who made the boat until I got the registration from the DNR who said it is a 1961 JC Penny 12 footer
