I watch a lot of TV. Until recently I watched little fictional drama; mostly nonfiction and some British comedy.
Now I suddenly discover that lead characters in many popular shows are insufferable jerks.
NCIS: The DiNozzo character is a bully and a terrible jerk. If he worked for me it wouldn't last two days before I either beat him senseless or threw him out an upper story window (or both). Gibbs can be insensitive, too.
House: Another jerk seriously distorts how a good physician treats colleagues and patients.
Doc Martin: Another bad, bad example of physician PR.
None of those characters would survive a week in the real world, and I haven't even looked at other drama and crime shows.
Are young people likely to see them as role models??
