my friend just bought a new g3 flat bottom boat with a 90/65 yamaha jet drive outboard. well we broke it in like we were told to then we headed for shallow waters. the motor performed great but we ended up smacking the intake grate and housing on a rock going through rapids. does anyone know if there is a stronger aftermarket intake grate and housing avaliable? it would be nice to have something alittle more durable than aluminum.

Re: jet drive question..

If you get something harder than the aluminum grate, it will transfer the energy from the rock to the housing, breaking it, instead of the aluminum.

That's by design. The grate's cheap, compared to a new housing, I'd think.

But, it's OK, if you keep on, you'll soon hit a rock with your hull, and that'll make the question moot.

Take it in and have it welded. If you look closely at other jet units on riverboats most have been welded back together at least once, the nature of the beast. Chief Chief
