I have a 90hp 1995 jetboat mercury motor. Boat starts up fine but after about 5 minutes will sputter out and will not restart.
I have new plugs, stator, wires, fuel, and checked the carbs which appear to be working but may need adjustments.
I sprayed some ether into the carb today after the motor died to see if it would restart and it did...but only for a second running on the ether. Other than the shot of ether the motor will not stay running after a restart on a warm engine (plus its dying at idle).
I've read that the problem could be either the coils or the auto enricher. What advice or recommendations do you have? I should also mention there is alot of smoke coming out of hte exhaust and i think its buring alot of oil, although unsure if thats normal.
plugs look wet when removed. also the boat idled much longer yesterday when the air temperature was much colder than today.
