hey there I have a 2stroke 40hp jhonson. Was driving on the water when all of a sudden it started beeping. I turned it off strate away looked around I found my white light at the back of the boat was disconnected and both wires where touching could this cause the beeping or would it be the impeller. After taping the lights up I waited and fished with my freind. Then turned on the boat and drove for about 10 mins and the beeping didn’t happen. Was the 10 minutes enough for motor to over heat and beep again if that was the issue?

Your running light shorting out should have nothing to do with an overheat or low oil alarm coming from your control box....hopefully your running lights had a fuse which should be blown now.

Is it possible you were in some dirty water or weeds or something and it was temporary plugged up thus overheating? If your 10 minutes of running back was just idling then it might not set off the alarm.

I don’t think it was clogged. However on the way back I was driving slower than usual just incase. When the beep did come on and I turned off the boat the beep wil come back even if I just turned the key once without kicking over the boat.

Box should beep once when you turn the key to tell you the alarm is working.

Model number will be on the starboard tilt bracket. Should start off J40 and then some more letters.

So what I did was I removed the lower unit and connected a hose to the copper pipe and found that the copper pipe has a leak it’s spraying water out right at the kink inside. Would you have anyone to repair this in Sydney? I think it’s a 77 model can’t find any bracket with the serial number
