when timing my 1990 90hp Johnson using j r method it says to set that timing base full advanced to timing base stop screw...I have no timing base stop. Not that I can see.can I just disconnect the throttle linkage and manually go to full throttle by shoving the linkage against the wide open stop screw then wire that in position, Then you could put the shifter back in neutral position to be able to try to start the motor. Then time the motor? I don't understand how you could time it if the advance plate was wired at full advance position. How would it move when you do go to time it if its wired.....
Does any of this make sence to anyone...lol

There should be a stop screw with a black rubber boot for the maximum advance stop.---If that is not there then that is the first thing that needs to be installed !--------------Run carburetors empty.--Then move throttle to full advance.---Then turn key to " on "----Then turn motor over at the solenoid with a jumper wire.---See where the timing is.-----The timing is fixed at the factory and generally does not need adjusting for the life of the motor.------Timing can be trown off by a sheared flywheel key.

If you have the cam style linkage like below you are correct as no timing stop screw. This model you adjust with engine in gear ,plugs pulled ,throttle WOT, and crank with jumper. If adjustment is needed adjust the nurled thumb screw....
