yes, you heard right. some of you know that i've been considering upping my game from a 35 to a 50 for my 13.5' vintage runabout. the 2-stroke-era johnnyrudes are hard to find. i've found a 2-stroke 50hp yamaha that looks like a late-80's johnnyrude. i intentionally didn't post about it on the yamaha forum because i didn't want biased opinions. just wondering if yamahas are considered durable, dependable, or both?

feel free to pm me if cluttering up this forum is inappropriate. then again, if direct comparisons to johnnyrudes are made, maybe it is appropriate?

also interested in how heavy they are, in comparison to each make.

weight, you can get at NADA Boats. Yammy are good motors, service centers may be harder to find, and a greater distance to get to.

thanks for the candid response. my but those NADA values for used outboards are otherworldly low. good running motors seem to be selling for waaay more than the nada guide says they're worth. but the weight info is extremely useful.

You can say that again. Yamaha makes a nice motor. Never used one that big, but the small ones are great. Lots of folks swear by them.

For what it is worth if I were buying a new motor it would be a Yamaha but as stated parts may be harder to come across, they are good motors.

Had a bunch Yamaha dirt bikes and they were all bullit proof , they have tons of experience building 2 strokes, not quite as long as Jonnyruds but close.

thanks again for the candor, guys. if this were a ford forum and i asked a question about a chevrolet, or perhaps a bmw, i doubt i would have gotten the unbiased responses i got from you guys.

[fwiw, not too long ago, yamaha made some high-performance engines for ford, LOL]
