Hello all:
I am rebuilding a super sea horse 1959 35 Hp, I rebuild carburetor, fuel pump, impeller, point and coils, the motor so far starts, but only with the prime from the gas tank ( a minute or so), once it is finished the engine stops. The pressure line , you can feel the pressure, then I connect the pressure line and disconnect the fuel out, I crank the engine, and I don?t get any fuel delivery. I took apart again the fuel pump and I check it with diagram, and I am pretty sure it is correct the assembly.

I am thinking could it be the primer bulb (check valve) , any thoughts or advice.

Thanks in advance

if you can prime the engine with the primer bulb, it should be okay. I suspect a fuel pump problem. Either you didn't put it back together correctly or the crankcase to fuel pump line is plugged or leaking. You didn't get the in and out hoses switched?

Thanks Jimmbo, yesterday I continue checking the system, let me explain you what other tests I have done: 1) I unplug the Fuel out line from the pump 2) I blow with my mouth air into "fuel line in" from the gas tank, I can blow and suck air from the hose, I think this is wrong because the internal valves should act as check valve , I am correct?. 3) Regarding the hoses , they are correct, "fuel in", Incoming from the tank, "fuel out" to carburetor. 4) I put pressure with my mouth on the pressure hose side, and I move a litte gas from the cristal bowl, to fuel out, but you cant feel any suction on the fuel in side.

Take the pump apart again and look over the check valves and seats, perhaps the valves or their retainer and associated parts weren't installed correctly

You should be able to blow through the pump from the "fuel in" fitting, but not back the other direction. If you can blow through it backwards, the check valves are not checking.

The pulse line applies alternate pressure/vacuum pulses to move the diaphragm back and forth as the piston creates pressure and vacuum on each stroke. You cannot do anything meaningful by blowing and sucking it by mouth except you should not be able to blow or suck clear through it. Nor should squeezing the primer bulb discharge fuel through the pulse hose.

Thanks Jimmbo and F_R, yesterday I took apart the pump again, and I check it the check valves, in the inlet check valve has a little debris on it, I cleaned and put all back together, I put it back in the motor and run great. The problem was the check valve with debris it was not checking.
