My 112's have recently started to burn up coils. Three coils in the last 30 or so hours. Any ideas on why this would start to happen all the sudden??

Explain further just what is happening. Have you done a bench test on the coils, or have you had them tested with a coil tester. This does'nt sound right. I would suspect a marginal power loss to the coil.

I started to loose rpm's and horse power on port motor. Had a friend with some that has previously worked as an outboard mechanic come check motors. He used a timing light to check coils. Said one was bad. Got a new one. Ran great. Next trip out the starboard motor did same thing. Checked coils again(with timing light) and found another one bad. Changed it. Ran great for 2 trips. Now back to port motor doing same thing. ditto another coil????

Do a running voltage check to those coils. If you can, have a test done on those coils you think are bad. I just have a hunch they are not. Thats why I suggest a output check on the whole system, charge coil, sensors, pack.

Are these the factory coils that come with a 1 year parts and labor warranty? Or are these an aftermarket coil?

Arthur, Strange problem,as coils can last for years.I want to suggest the battery ground wires are loose/corroded at the block connection,but that should kill the power packs.That seems to leave us with poor grounds at the coils themselves.Is there a lot of corrosion,or have the bolts for the coils loosened up ?<br /><br />DHP
