My 1999 Johnson 115 bogs on takeoff. Works fine otherwise. Makes it tough to pull up skiers. Any ideas? Thanks

Re: Johnson 115 bog

Having a similar problem with my Evinrude 140. Cleaned up my carbs and installed carb kits (new gaskets, floats, needle valves), which helped but did not eliminate the problem.

I replaced the fuel line, filter, and primer bulb, but haven't had a chance to take it out on the water since. However, the motor sounded a bit better on the muffs in my driveway.

Basically, I'm assuming I have a not enough fuel (too much air) problem. I'm hoping the old, somewhat brittle/cracked, fuel line was leaking air into the system.

Hope that gives you some ideas to start with. Good luck!

Re: Johnson 115 bog

Had similar problem with Johnson 140 (82), was the water separating fuel filter. Pulled the filter, poured into a glass jar and waited for it to settle out. Half was water half was gas.

From then on always carried a spare filter. It turned out I had a pinhole leak in the fuel tank which the water from the bildge was getting into.

Hope this helps.

Safe boating to all.

Cheers.

emp.
