I have a 1983 Johnson 115 hp V4 (rebuilt)

Compression is 110 on all 4 cylinders, I am getting fuel to all cylinders, fuel bulb is staying tight, I do have spark on all 4 cylinders, I have swapped spark plugs and wires, I have switched coils with no change, I have switched power packs and still only #2 has the weak/intermittent spark. I have determined this by doing the drop test and looking at the plugs. When I drop #1,3,&4 the motor drops considerably and when I pull # 2 and replace there is hardly a difference.

When I first to take off WOT I can tell all 4 fire for a second then I drop the #2 cylinder. I am going to get new plugs today but I doubt its gonna help but it cant hurt. Last week the #2 spark plug boot had worn through from contact with the cowling latch and was arcing to the motor. I could hear the ticking so I tapped it and it stopped. Could It have done damage to the Stator, Trigger when arcing? Seems like the coils, wires, plugs, and power packs are good to go. As I said I am getting spark on the cylinder but It is either flooding or not strong enough of a spark to handle WOT. Also It does miss a bit (intermittent) at idle. Please help.

Best Always,

Ryan

have you done a spark test on it, checked its jumping a 7/16gap?
a stator wouldnt make only a specific cylinder weak in my opinion
how does the number 2 plug look?

what im trying to say is it could be spark/fuel or water getting in or something else, checking it jumps that gap will determine if sparks ok
having a timimng light to check if its firing in correct time would be good too

If you say you can hear the spark on # 2 cylinder than maybe the reason is not spark related.----Did you clean the carburetors during the rebuild of the motor ??-----Did you have the high speed jets out of the carburetor bowls for cleaning ??

Thank you all for your input. The spark plug is fuel soaked. I have not done a gap test but I will today. I am also getting new spark plugs today. I did not rebuild the motor myself so I am not sure if the carbs have been properly cleaned. I did not have this issue until the spark plug wire shorted out so I am thinking it is spark related. I will try swapping coils today. I actually replaced the coil with a spare I had the other day and I cant guarantee it was a good working coil. If the coil was bad would it still fire? I will also check the timing today and get back to you all with results. Does anyone know the specs for the timing. I read somewhere to check it at 4500 rpms? What Degree?

bad coil=no fire
you say your fuel bulbs staying tight, is that with engine off? (checking float)
id just mark tdc on that cylinder and check its firing roughly when it should, if it is the spark plug shouldnt be wet
