Can get running using choke and advanced throttle.
Difficulty going to idle, must race engine and then quickly
shift to gear, otherwise engine stops. Can at times idle but peter off after a few minutes. Runs fairly well at at cruisng speed.:/

Is this an air leak in the fuel system?

Any tricks in finding leak?

Re: Johnson 115 start and idle

going to start with the least expensive ---up. check spark on all plugs, when running. use insulated handled pliers and pull the plug wire, there should be change when you do this , replace wire go to next . if you don't get a change you are not getting spark, check compression on all cyl. should be abouve 100psi, and within 10 % of each other. if this is good you have a fuel/oil/air problem. you symptoms point to this any way, having to use choke, probably in for a proper carb cleaning and rebuild. don't shift at rpms above 1000, or you will damage the lower unit.
