Johnson 115hp momentary misfire at 4000rpm

I have a 2001 115 fast strike. Motor was rebuilt with new rings, bearings etc. New power pack installed. Motor is slow to come up on plane but does get there. At 4000 rpm I get a hard jolt/misfire approximately every 12 seconds. Time of jolt/misfire increases as rpm's reduced.

Classic symptom of a worn out clutch dog and forward gear in lower unit. It is coming out of gear, rotating half a revolution, and slamming back into gear. Most people say it feels like you hit a log (or here in Florida, a gator).
