HELP!!!

I recently purchased 2 carb kits for about $30, new spark plugs - $35, new powerpack - $300, and now I am at a stand still. I believe the diapham in my '72 Johnson 125HP is leaking and causing a very very bad starting problem in my beautiful 100 Hour motor due to gas leaking directly into the powerhead. Does anyone know where I can pick up a new fuel pump for a reasonable price? I believe I have found one for apx $50 but since the old one is "unfixable" according to my manual and must be replaced I am hoping for less but if not I can handle that as I have put over $2k into this boat since purchasing it in Sept of last year and am willing to pay the cost for it to start on command and not have problems every time I want to take it out. Please help ASAP.

LostBoater '72

Howdy, LB.

What convinces you that the fuel pump is bad?

If it has the perforated diaphram, as you suspect, it would cause fuel starvation.

Tell us what is happening.

And please don't buy more parts until you have verified that they are failed. :)

Re: Johnson 125 - at it again - Fuel Pump?

JB-
The first problem was the powerpack burning up so that was unrelated but it has always been hard to start but after awhile of not running(apx 1 week) it starts ok with starter fluid but the next day will not start and a small amount of the fuel'oil mixture leaks out of a small hole in the lower unit(which I figure is the drain hole). Well,
I have pulled both the carburetors and used carb kits to rebuild them as they were spotless already. I thought a needle may have been worn causing a leak into the intake manifold but not the case. Anyway, there is still fuel leaking out of the lower unit drain hole with the carbs still removed and there are no hoses attached but the vacuum hose from the bottom of the fuel pump to the powerhead. According to the manual (again) it states that the diaphram is bad and I need to relace the whole fuel pump as it is "unfixable"... Please let me know if I am incorrect.

LostBoater
