I just started my outboard for the 1st time this season. The engine is blowing gobs of oil out of the exaust(out of water). The engine is running a bit rough. The plugs do not seem to be foulded. What could it be? VRO Tank? At years end 2006 the engine smoked a little more than usaual and the engine would shutter when brought down from a high RPM.

Day 2- I pulled 1 of the 4 carbs off it was in very good shape. They were cleaner than I would have ever though possible. The boat is curently in the water and smokes a lot and smokes even more when the engine goes from idle to a top end RPM. Seems like there is a mis at low RPM.

Day 3 found a arching plug changed all 4 with new wires and plugs. NOW I have all 4 plugs arching from the boot down the side off the plug to the block of the engine.

Any other ideas before I spend money I don't have to bring a mechanic in? VRO tank or the sensor that regulates the amount of oil? Arching plugs any thoughts? This engine is not in terrible condition and I have tried to take the time for care/maint. What's up? Getting frustrated.

Fix the plug wires before you fix anything else. Arcing is caused by faulty connections, boots, or wires. Without being there, I have no idea which it might be. If you use automobile wires, get rid of them. They won't work. You need copper core, 7mm wire, available at your JohnnyRude dealer, motorcycle shops, small engine shops.
