Is it possible for a VRO pump to be dumping too much oil? I have found all kinds of tests to check to see what part of the system is failing if there is a no oil condition, but I have an excessive oil condition??? Engine runs great is very responsive but when coming off WOT it will die immediately and if restarted and allowed to idle it seems to load up and Smoke severely the longer it runs???

Look for a fuel restriction or air leak in your fuel system.

Engine responds too well to throttle for there to be a fuel restriction (I think) seems like system is overloaded at low rpm with oil and it gets right up to plane without hesitation.

For a start, hook up a three-gallon reserve tank with premix (or pre mix the fuel in your tank). Disconnect the oil inlet tube and direct the oil into a measured container, then get back to the forum with some results.

This is probably only step one of the solution.

Well is there time period for which I should run it to determine if we are getting to much oil pumped in to the mix?
is it possible for the pulse limiter to fail and allow it to pump more OIL then necessary?

QC, Boobie is correct. Look for an air leak or fuel restriction. On my Johnny, the gasket on the main strainer under the airbox was allowing air into the gasoline side of the OMS Pump. I used way too much oil. It was especially noticeable at high speed. But I did kill mosquitos.

If you disconnect the oil supply, you will need to bleed the system, and there is no adjustment on the OMS pump, unlike Mercs.

Well I found a small leak between the primer and the pump sealed that up now I have gas running out the front of the carbs in a bad way...ughhhhh.

Rebuilt the carb now I have a leak coming from the Throttle body or at least that's the way it appears. it is leaking from the butterfly Stem out the bottom of the throttle body on both bottom carb's I swear this thing is getting the best of me. I have torqued and re-torqued the carb to the throttle body used Sierra Needles and thought the might be the problem so I replaced the needles and seats with Johnson ones still same thing. I set the float dead nuts with the carb gasket plate (tolerance said 1/32" +- and I am inside that". \Nothing like a good old A**kicking....

Re: Johnson 130HP 1996 Vro Question

I'll just throw this out there as I did it once on my v4 (140hp) and it caused fuel leaks similar to the ones you mentioned.

While reinstalling the carbs I bumped the little red lever on the primer. Didn't notice it.

Funny you mention that I replaced the service valve as that was cracked well upon you mention I pulled the primer apart and fount that the little white cap on the piston was inside the primer is melted and disfigured....so I will replace the whole thing and see where I am at.....hope this stops the bleeding...
