My 1975 Johnson 135 just dies when I shift it into gear....It idles fine, there isn't a safety neutral swift besides in the throtle arm section, even after a good warm up. There is old gas in there could that be it? Or is it a choke thing? Also the plugs seem to be quite wet and oily...I premix the gas

Tranny,

Have a look at my post, today 14th (help 140 Evinrude)

It was just rebuilt and had exactly the same symptoms when it was put back in the water. Ran fine in a tank and with a test prop could easily reach 5000 rpm. As soon as any load was put on the engine it died. Plugs were constantly wet. OMC mechanics thought it was the carb and increased the jets. Same. Then they replaced the ignition system. Same.

Then they removed the carbs and found a blockage. After cleaning the engine has power again.

NG

Thanks for the info....I'm now going to the backyard to rip out the carbs. Just hope I can figure out my little electrical problem.
