I have found a problem with a 140 Johnson 1986, The motor was starting OK. Idle OK. WOT OK but running rough at mid throttle.
Investigation revealed that the metering tubes in the carbys had started to disolve, the carbys and metering tubes are plastic on this model.
Has anyone come across this problem before, I am not aware of ethenol use in this area but that is a possibility.
It appears that the metering tubes are not available as seperate items but I have to replace the carbys.

Re: Johnson 140 Carby problem

It happens from time to time. The tubes can be replaced but you have to find someone with the chart to reference the carb number for you. The tubes do not have a listed part number and there are 3 - 4 of them as I remember. And they have to be inserted to a specific depth.

You can ask your dealer to call BRP but I doubt he will. At that point you'll just get replacement carb assemblies. used is OK as long as you get the assemblies - the carb body and the throttle body.

Thanks Dhadley, My BRP dealer cannot find the tube numbers, can you supply the numbers. The alloy plate No.1 carby has the number 398212-140HP-17DL.
Thanks again

He won't be able to find the numbers. He has to call BRP with the numbers on the carb. Even then he'll have to find someone at BRP who knows rather than someone who's looking in the same parts catalog he has. There is no published part number.
