I was given this outboard as they were thru with it as it did not go into gear. I have taken off the greasy lower unit after cleaning the whole outboard with pressure wash. When I manually go up and down with the shift rod nothing changes. It does not seem to go into gear and by hand the drive shaft will go forward (clockwise) but not the other way. Shift Dog? or something else.

I'm betting someone removed the yoke pin screw and didn't get it back in correctly. Take the screw out and see if you can align the yoke hole into the screw hole.

Either that, or the yoke cradle has come apart. Take the rear carrier out and have a look.

OK Guys, great advice. I hope it is something this simple. Pretty busy right now but will let all know what happens when I get to it. Tnk...

I should of mentioned that when you turn the drive shaft or prop it all seems bound up and super tight hard to turn.

Overhaul the lower unit.-----You should be able to turn the prop with your little finger.
