Johnson 150 Fast Strike

I own a 18' Javelin with Johnson 150 Fast strike - bought new in 2000 and only had in water 3 times due to illness - I'm not terribly impressed with performance - had an 18' Stryker with Evinrude XP 150 that seems in my mind to run circles around the Fast Strike - both boats had same jack plates and set back of 6" - both had 14 1/2", 23 pitch Raker props - thinking of upgrade in engine if cant get it to run better - XP 150 had much more gut - has anyone seen this? answers will be greatly appreciated.

The 150 Fast Strike should be quicker on the bottom and the same on top end. You did not mention RPM's, so it's hard to say about the two boats. <br /><br />A buddy of mine just put a 60 degree 150 together and took off his 200 crossflow. He has a 20' Dusky (heavy) and the Fast Strike turns the same prop within (less than) 200 RPM but gets up much faster.<br /><br />Good luck!

THE 150 FAST STRIKE IS DEFINETLY A STRONGER RUNNING ENGINE THAN OLD CROSS FLOW 150 YOU HAD BEFORE .I DO NOT KNOW MUCH ABOUT THE BOAT YOU SAID YOU HAD BEFORE BUT YOU MAY WANT TO LOOK AT THE WEIGHT OF THE TWO ,(MAYBE IT IS THE BOAT NOT THE MOTOR) YOU MAY ALSO WANT TO CHECK AND BE SURE THE TIMING AND THROTTLE ARE OPENING ALL THE WAY .AND YOUR PROP YOU MAY WANT TO DOUBLE CHECK ON UNLESS YOU HAD IT REWORKED YOU DO NOT HAVE A 23" PITCH RAKER THEY ARE ONLY MADE IN EVEN PITCH NUMBERS . WHAT RPM'S ARE YOU GETTING OUT OF THE MOTOR?

Reply to Dhadley - no problem with boat getting up - boat tachs to about 5600 RPM - the Evinrude XP 150 on the other boat was a bit sluggish out of the hole, but once planned was lightning fast all the way to max RPM - the Fast Strike takes more time & a little slower (3-4mph)<br />reply to CAPTBLACKSMARINE - the Stryker isn't built anymore it was locally built in Huntsville, Al. - company only builds a few large cigar boats now to my knowledge - hull was extremely fast but a bit flimsy to my liking - a lot of flexing and rattling - best I can remember boats are close in weight, about 1500 - 1600 lbs. dry & unrigged - prop reworked and sold to me to be a 23 pitch prop - ran it on both boats - Javelin is much more stabile - just now physically able to start looking at what to do - engine has onty been run 3 times - maybe more time will help and will check throttle and timing - thanks to both of you for the help. have a great boating day
