hey guys I have a Johnson 150 and it is not running right at all. It will not start right up unless I prime the bulb every time I start it on the hose. It will only stay running for a few minutes and doesn't idle smooth. The only way it stays running is if I pump the primer bulb. I can see through the inline filter between the carbs that the fuel line doesn't stay full if I don't prime it. I thought this was caused by the bad shift switch I have but I disconnected it and the problem continued. I have noticed a lot of fuel coming out the prop while running on the hose. Also when I push the key in I hear a click from the choke but when it's running it doesn't seem to do anything anymore. I do not use the vro oil injection and the wires are disconnected. How do I go about testing this fuel pump/?

What year is this engine? Is it a looper or crossflow? If you have to constantly prime the fuel hose bulb in order to keep the engine running-the engine is starving for fuel. Could be a weak fuel pump, air leaks in the fuel system, a restricted anti-siphon valve, bad ball valves in the fuel hose bulb, etc. Make sure the red lever on the fuel primer (choke) solenoid is in the "run" position.

it is a 99 Johnson 150. I have ran it off a separate can of gas and ya I have to keep pumping the ball in order for it to keep going when I look through the filter in between the carbs I can see it losing fuel if I stop priming it.
