My 1996 Johnson 150 won't start. It was running great today for about an hour, didn't notice anything unusual (sputtering, loss of power, etc.) Brought it down to an idle, and it cut off abruptly. I noticed the following:

1) Plenty of fuel (looked in tank, bulb gets firm, smell of gas when cranking).
2) No alarms
3) Starter cranks away, but engine never turns over.
4) Steady stream of water from outflow when cranking
5) Oil tank full
6) Plugs look fine, checked all the connections
7) 13 AMPS in battery

Any ideas? All thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks,

I should also add that I don't think it was flooded, because the problem persisted for about 3 hours, and I tried the fast idle to clear the pistons.

Fuel/air, compression, spark. Need to find out which is missing.

Ctboater, have you checked the lanyard switch ?
It's the red cord emergency that hangs on remote or near dash.

Try to pull cable out then back in, to see if it works. I had same problem 3 days ago, I had to let boat drift to shore, wife went and got trolling motor (which I forgot), while waiting, I unclipped cord, messed with switch, and...wroom it fired up as soon as I turned key.

Yep, she's been a keeper for 13 years now, and going for many more, you should see her backing up trailers, she's an expert, even with a 26footer.

I used my fishing net handle to push boat last 20ft to shore.

Remember, always buy a net with a long handle, you never know what could happen.... ;)

Thanks for the advice, everyone. Walker, I am new to this, but have bought the manual, and will try to narrow it down to fuel, compression or spark.

Valv, the kill switch lanyard was the first thing I thought of, as that has happened to me in the past.
