Johnson 175 Safe mode

Have 2004 Johnson 175. What can put it in safe mode other than overheating? Runs up to speed for about 60 seconds then goes into save/slow mode. Plenty of water flow that is warm to the touch. External head temperature is around 145 degF when checked at time of triggering slow mode.

If it's 2 stroke it could be an oil issue. Where are you feeling the warm water? Is it from the pisser? Hopefully not, the pisser water should be the same temp as the source water.

Oil is good. Goes into safe mode with sensors disconnected.pisser water is maybe 20 deg warmer than inlet.
