Can anyone tell me what the cylinder compression test results for a Johnson
185HP VRO (1984) should be.

I have scores of
cyl 1 - 84
cyl 2 - 90
cyl 3 - 91
cyl 4 - 89
cyl 5 - 90
cyl 6 - 91

They seem low to me?
This would be much appreciated,
JB

Joe,

They seem low to me too. Is this the 185 on ebay?

The compression should be checked with the throttle wide open. Perhaps that is why they are low.

Nope, but you caught my curosity so I had a look at the motor on Ebay. Interesting all compression results were around 80 PSI for that motor. I am wondering if the older OMC V6 motors had lower compression than most motors. Anyone know if this is the case?

I just read on that guy's Ebay ad that these engines indeed did have lower than normal compression and that 80PSI was normal. Hmmm
