Does it use the same coils as the 54 to newer 50 johnsons,
part # 18-5181

Is someone could point me to a parts manual as well that would be very helpful is determining if I should purchase this motor.

Catalog says coils 10hp 49-63 and points 50-63.Are your coils the then new plastic coils. The older paper wrapped coils seldom fail.As most of us know the plastic molded coils are all suspect as they age.

Don't have the 1951 book, but that would be model QD-12 or QD-13. Is one of those what you have?

1949-50 Models QD-10 and QD-11 use the 580040 coils, which were obsolete 40 years ago. Like I say, I don't have the QD-12 or QD-13 book.

But if it has the magnets in the flywheel and push-rod operated points, it is the old 580040 coils. If it has the magnets in the flywheel and rocker arm points, it uses the Universal coil (18-5181)
