Been a while since I have posted in the forum and am now back looking for info. I recently purchased a Johnson 2.3 outboard that is pretty much in need of everything. The motor is a tiller steer direct drive model. MOD# HJ2RENR. I picked up the outboard for 20 dollars and figured it could be a fun project for the back of my flat back canoe. The engine is missing the front control cover and seal, Carb, airbox, all electrical components. I was looking online and can find the carb and a few other electrical components for the engine but it seems that the oportunity cost for this project may not balance out. Many of these parts are not availble anymore so I am going to have to scour the internet for used pieces. The one thing that really baffles me is that I cannot seem to find this MOD # anywhere. Most of the parts websites I have looked at don't seem to have any record of that engine being produced. From what I have read the first 2.3 HP was not produced till 1996 yet after using the Johnson/Evinrude decoder it seems the motor is designated a 1992. Anyone have any more info on this or did I just buy a 20 dollar paper weight? Ill see if I can upload some pics in the next day or so.
