Johnson 200 GT power trim drifting down on it own

My bass boat has a 1989 Johnson GT 200 motor .if I trim it up, it immediately drifts down. It will go all the way down on its own within a couple minutes. Does anyone know what this could be? The trim motor sounds good. The motor just won't stay up on its own.

not an authority on T&T, but what about the fluid level?

Yes check your fluid level. Raise it to full tilt and then add your fluid. Then cycle it 10 times and check the level again.

Perhaps look at seals on manual release valve.
