Hello guys I’m new here here is what I got going on. Took engine apart to hone cylinders & re-ring. Found some of the rods have a copper look. Does anyone know what this is.

Perhaps they are copper plated during the manufacturing / heat treating process.

Are they factory pistons or after market.----I do know and did copper plating of parts myself.----Copper plating was removed from surfaces that were to be hardened , such as bearing surfaces.----The carbon is absorbed by the steel.----Carbon does not go through the copper.------Sort of like using masking tape when painting !!!

Wiseco pistons.-----0.020" O/S -----3 port and 3 starboard.----Only use wiseco replacement rings.------What issues did you have that leads you to replace the rings ??

No real issue see signs of wear when replacing head because of stripped plug. It has lost power over last couple yrs. cylinders look good some of crosshatching left. Wanted to get to it before something bad happened. Should I take to machine shop to check or hone & put back together?
