1994 Johnson 200, Model J200STLERK, This boat had sat for 3-4 years on a boat lift, compression 90 to 100 psi, done lync and sync per the factory manual, rebuilt all carbs, found floats stuck , jets loose, a lot of mud dobbers nests and some trash.
Cannot get the idle speed up to run right, pulled the intake cover back off found carbs 5 and 6 spitting fuel back out, suspected reed valves (leaf valves) pulled carbs back off, and the intake. The reeds were open as much as .015 of an inch, also a white milky substance flowing from carbs when running visible in throat of carbs, Water? I have added 5 Gal of Fresh gas and was told to run premium gas in this? thoughts and suggestions.
I am going to change fuel filter when I put it back together.
Can I change just these 2 sets of reeds or should replace all 6? I'm suspecting all six carbs and should I go factory or hi performance, this is a friends boat and he is selling it to a good friend of his. So I will continue to see it and don't want to burn it up.
The power head was replaced with a reman unit 8- 10 years ago.
The boat runs out strong at better than 5000 rpms, short 5 seconds spurts only at this time, 18 degrees BTC and 4 degrees ATC (can't get to 6 degrees) for idle, haven't pushed it as the carbs aren't fully set up yet.
Idle up sol is working will drop rpm approx 400 rpm when it shuts off.
There is no stumble or hesitation when going from idle to wot, very smooth, Cyl head temp are within 3 degrees at idle
Any thing else to check while I have it this far down. Idle speed screws are set at 3-4 turns out at this time, started at 2 1/2 (would not start and idle til I got them where they are now, and not showing much change as they are being turned, I'm suspecting due to leaking reed valves.
Am I missing anything?
or am I on the wrong road?
Thanks:
