Hi everyone, I just joined the forums! I bought a boat a few months ago, it's a 1966 ThunderCraft! It's got a Johnson 25 but I can't figure out what year it is. I think it's a 1988-90 just not sure. Anyways the model number is J25TEESD. I look forward to chatting with everyone cause I know I'll have a lot of questions soon enough! Thanks

First letter is the make (J)ohnson or (E)vinrude. The number is the horsepower. The next letters are the models and options, some of which are... (E)lectric, (M)anual, (L)ong shaft, (X)tra long shaft, (T)rim. The third last and second last letters are the year, by this code

I-N-T-R-O-D-U-C-E-S
1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-0

The last letter is the 'revision' within that year....

So, your J25TEESD is a Johnson, 25hp, tiller control with electric start (TE), built in ES (1990), revision D of that year....

One 'condition' on the year code, it only works from 1980 and later....

Ok, I appreciate the info guys. It helped. Now if I can figure out why it spits and sputters when you try to give it some gas but idles good than I'll be good to go!

Try starting a new topic in the johnson evinrude forum. Include your model number and describe what the problem is you are having.
