Not the best title... but here I go..

Motor is a 1996 Johnson 28HP SPL. Runs like a top currently... I have always seemed to have alot of smoke (white) from the motor though... and recently started wondering if it was just the nature of the motor? I know these motors are stripped down versions of the 30HP... but wonder if removing the bells and whistles adds to the smoke?

I know about running clean gas and using quality oil. I mix 50:1 currently. I have heard about using SeaFoam and think I will try that also...

Just curious if any 28HP owners were in the same boat (no pun intended) with all this smoke.

in a barrel or test tank a two stroke will seem really smokey.
In general operation not so much.
White smoke that dissipates quickly is an indication if water in the combustion chamber.(bad head gasket).
Simple oil haze is blueish and tends to linger.
A bad fuel pump diaphram can cause extra smoke.
Unusually clean spark plug(s) may indicate water intrusion.

Smoking is normal on these mtrs. Just make sure you're using the right premix. One pt of oil to 6 gal fuel.
