Hi all i have a 3 hp johnson 1`960 is the small white one with the high low needles in it i have great spark good compression however it seems fuel maybe the bad guy on my end just wondering how many turns from gentle seat out it needs to start her up as im about to put a new carb kit into her im looking to make he a full time trolling motor for a small aluminum just cant get her to fire and maintain running.

3/4 turn out on the high speed and 1 1/2 turns on the slow speed will get it running. If it won't start and run at that, something else probably is wrong.

Good spark doesn't mean the ignition system is good. Cracked coils will spark but not run. And they ALL have cracked coils unless they have already been replaced. Take the cover off the flywheel and take a peek at them before you go tearing into something else.

sorry i forgot to meantion i put new coils and new points gapped to .020 in it this week my mistake on that i apoligize.
