Hello,

the thermostat of my engine is a 143 °F => 62°C-type.

Does anyone know how high's the avarage temperature of the cylinder head under normal conditions ?

I suppose the 143 ° spec means the thermostat opens for about 1 mm or so with 62 ° Celsius.

Greetings from Germany

Nordy

Re: Johnson 30hp-head temperature

Hello Nordy
I don't know about your engine, but on my 55 hp Johnson the top of the head gets up to 63 degrees C, or about 145 degrees F, at idle.

I monitored it with a heat sensor after replacing my thermostat and poppet valve. At this temperature, it was almost too hot to touch for more than a second.

I think I remember the hot alarm goes off at about 211 Degrees F, from when I tested it as per the manual.

Hope this helps.

Steve
