I have a 1970 or 71 same thong basically. Anyway i just ordered new points/condenser coils and new spark plug wires. Also i am going to replace the kill switch wires. So their won't be any chance of an electrical problem. I need some reliability. So will i need to re time it if i get new points? Or will it be ok if i line up the key and gap them to .20. I did this on an 1970s tractor and didint need to re time.
It has a 5 inch extension so its a long shaft. But on the lower part the right fin is broken clean off. I dont have the broken part. Will this be OK or what should i do. they have bolt on ones right?
Thanks Matt

just changing the points and such will not affect "timing" Set the points at .020 at the high point of the lobe and be sure and torque down the flywheel. It will move okay without the skeg, but I would recommend taking it to a prop shop and have them fix it.

Its not the skeg i don't think. the skeg is the straight pice under the prop right? this is the trim thing i think the right side is broken clean off.
Is it bad to run without it.?

not sure what you mean by a trim thing? I assume you mean the cavitation plate. It needs to be fixed for the prop to work as it should.
